REFLECTIONS ON AN ENGLISH GARDEN
THE ROYAL COUNTY OF BERKSHIRE SHOW 2008
“The reflections on a day well spent furnish us with joys more pleasing than ten thousand triumphs.” Thomas à Kempis

The garden was created as a place of peace where you can relax and reflect on the day’s pleasures.
It is laid out in a formal style using ethically- sourced natural stone paving and topiary which recalls the strong lines characteristic of gardens of the past while a traditional arbour provides a cool spot to sit.
Silver award winner- the open gate invites you in and draws the eye to the water trough and the decorative arbour
The planting provides a restful colour palette- the evergreens with their variety of greens and textures, leaf variegations and some flowers to add the accent of colour.

The garden featured muted planted in tones of green and variegated foliage with an accent of white flowers
In the centre a reclaimed metal trough sits as a water feature to draw the eye into the garden from the open gate and to add to the feeling of coolness and tranquillity.
Having a keen interest in Garden History and (speaking as a Scot) traditional English Gardens led me to create a garden which provides a haven away from the frenetic pace of contemporary life.
